3. My EHR vendor said I have to submit all MIPS data through its product and pay additional fees to submit data for each MIPS category too. Is this true?

  1. No, various submission options are available to choose from for each MIPS category. Costs associated with submission via your EHR vendor can vary so it is important to ensure you are aware of all costs associated, and that the submission is both complete and accurate. 

    The following non-EHR reporting mechanisms are available for each of the MIPS performance categories for individual reporting:
    • Quality – claims, qualified registry, qualified clinical data registry (QCDR), or CMS QPP Submission Portal
    • Advancing Care Information - attestation, qualified registry, QCDR, CMS QPP Submission Portal
    • Improvement Activities – attestation, qualified registry, QCDR, CMS QPP Submission Portal
    • Cost – CMS will assess your performance using administrative claims data (note, this category will be scored as part of 2018 MIPS performance)

    The following non-EHR reporting mechanisms are available for each of the MIPS performance categories for Group or Virtual Group reporting:
    • Quality – qualified registry, qualified clinical data registry (QCDR), CMS QPP Submission Portal, CMS Web Interface (groups of 25 or more ECs) CMS-approved survey vendor for CAHPS (used in conjunction with another reporting mechanism), Administrative Claims
    • Advancing Care Information - attestation, qualified registry, QCDR, CMS QPP Submission Portal, CMS QPP Web Interface (groups of 25 or more ECs)
    • Improvement Activities – attestation, qualified registry, QCDR, CMS QPP Submission Portal, CMS QPP Web Interface (groups of 25 or more ECs)
